Former NY City Transit Cop Kevin Canty

Brooklyn New York- Sad, no tragic was the story that broke on Easter Sunday eve about the abusive former New York city transit cop who allegedly shot and killed his wife while their two small children were present in the home.
Kevin Canty 43, had just a year earlier retired from the city due to a disability for undisclosed reasons- but speculation is because he’s Black-ended an altercation with his wife Jessica Mera 40, by shooting her in the upper torso. Mera was rushed to Jamaica Hospital where she died the result of her injuries.
The quotes that were attributed to neighbors and friends of the couple were wrought with the racial stereotypes of Black male abuse and not so subtle curiosity of why’d anyone marry a Black man in the first place.
The couple had four kids and while not confirmed the ultra light complication of a pre-teen male child suggests that Canty(Maury Povich voice), was not the father!
Its important because while we can’t know for sure, failure in relationships suggests a pattern in relationships that can’t simply be dismissed as due to the inadequacy of Black men.

Our society has a problem when it comes to the vilification and demonization of Black men. This is the part where I’m supposed to offer that I don’t condone what Canty is alleged to have done as well as wont make excuses for his consistent, constant abuse.
Can we skip that part and just get to the unspoken and far more important point that these Black man hating self-fulfilling prophecies have placed a choke hold on our relationships?
That the hatred of Black men and the assault lead by White racists and Black man hating Black women- who’s silly but dangerous attempts to reverse the biological gender roles disguised as an opposition to the evil Patriarchy has them rooting for Black relationship to fail.
As Black men its our nature to capitulate to the wants and wishes of Black women that we would hope to marry and raise our strong Black family with.
Whether we like it, agree with it or not men do not get to decide what qualities in Black men our women use in making their determination of who to marry.

So if we are going to solve the problem of ninety-percent of Black women not with married to Black men then we must address not how f-d up Black men are as much as how stupid the choices of Black women are and how impossible it is for Black men to live up to their standards of Whiteness, Femininity– starting at Point Guard for the Los Angeles Lakers- that Black women are convinced are the only qualities that make us marriage material.
And I haven’t even begun to comment on this asinine requirement that any Black man worthy of the hand of a Black woman has to covet White women to even be considered.

The issue to be considered is Black men are not going to forgo relationships with Black women in order to force them into a more realistic idea of what Black men are. If we are to solve the problem we must address the choices of women, who alone decide who they marry, under what conditions and circumstances.
Does this put an undo burden on Black women? Of course but its the only way. Black men are not going to turn into White men or Black women. To make such unrealistic demands on us will simply cause Brothers to do as Canty did and put extensions in our hair and join the racist NY City police force in an effort to trick a Sista’ into choosing them.
Of course this fraud is impossible to keep up for both Black men and women leading to tragedies, while not as violent and horrific as what happened to Jessica Mera but none-the-less just as devastating to not just our families but to our community as a whole.
I fully understand in an age of Obama the enemies of the Black race and culture have ramped up their efforts to exterminate a race that they simply view as genetically inferior, a threat to the myth of White Supremacy and as such simply has no right or need to exist.
Black man hating Mellisa Harris-Perry’s too have a heightened sense of urgency and see their window of opportunity to see Obama fail closing fast as he’s two years away from leaving office as America’s most accomplished President.
What Obama’s success will do to the industry of Black male hatred will be irreversible so now more than ever convincing Black women to choose Black men who fit the stereotypes of Terry McMillan and Alice Walker’s books is a top priority.
Our job is to make sure that we no longer allow the enemies of Black men and indeed the Black race to control the narrative. Let’s reject this notion that the choices of Black women aren’t responsible for the dysfunction in our relationships.
