(Los Angeles) The first report came in late on the evening of April 11th in Ceder Rapids Minnesota. Police were called to a Burger King that employees said was going to explode if they didn’t break all the windows in the restaurant. Officers reported that the employees were breaking glass up until they informed them that this was a hoax.

It was only later did they learn that this was one of many phony calls to fast food restaurants where the caller-a suspected white male-poses as a fire department official, who firsts asks the employee to do a routine sprinkler alarm check.  The caller appears to be monitoring the restaurant as he instructs the employee to evacuate the building and to immediately break out all the glass or else the entire restaurant will blow up.

Many of the incidents involve employees using their personal vehicles to smash into their stores. Oklahoma, Arizona and Morro Bay California-which was the first reported incident in February-all were targeted. Damage estimates run from $10,000 to upwards of $35,000 to the restaurants to say nothing of the damage to the personal vehicles used by employees in the hoax.

On the morning of April 11th(approx) the Jack In The Box on 5th and Vermont in Los Angeles’ Korea Town neighborhood received a similar call. Again employees were instructed to do a phony sprinkler fire system test leading to a need to smash the windows to prevent the building from exploding. By late that evening the investigation was still going on as the business utilized the drive thru only.

An employee-refusing to give her name or make a statement-sat in a late model black sedan with obvious front end damage. Access to the interior of the site was blocked and the attendant at the drive thru window said he had no idea what happened he had just got on. The case is being investigated by the FBI because the incidents have occurred across State lines. At least two suspects are being sought.

Possible felony charges could include; Felony destruction of property, Felony terrorist acts.

Gas leaks are more common than you may think. California has had more than its share. Officials tell us that rarely if ever do they call a business to check for a gas leak or to test any sprinkler or fire alarm systems. We are reminded to always call 911 if we smell gas or suspect a leak.

Restaurant Management declined to speak on whether or not new guidelines have been drawn in regards to this type of call. Two blocks from the 5th and Vermont  Jack & The Box-a Ralph’s Grocery store was vandalized in a similar fashion-yet a Manager at the store assured us that it was merely an accident having nothing to do with the other incidents.

These attacks come at a bad time for activists and presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders who’s hoping to increase the minimum wage to $15 per hour. It should be noted that in the incidents to date management was made aware of the possible gas leak-or in the Burger King in Shawnee, OK a carbon monoxide leak. In at least one incident it was the Store Manager not the minimum wage worker that used their personal vehicle to inflict the damage.
